Have a great Thanksgiving!
Have a great Thanksgiving!
Hi Everyone,
Wow, did I get A LOT of requests for a low protein apple pie! Things have been crazy here (as usual) and shockingly I am cutting it close to the wire, but I just finished eating a most delicious pie. I am still working on a pumpkin pie and am pretty close to being happy with it. If all goes well, it will be on the site by Monday. If you are looking to get a jump start on it, I use a ginger cookie crust with the ginger cut out cookie recipe. Make a batch and then you will have it in your freezer for Christmas.
We are having Thanksgiving at our house this year and this is what we are serving.
To Start
Baby Greens with Smokey Shitakes and Cider Vinaigrette
Entree
Oven Roasted Portabellas with Sherry Gravy
served over mashed potatoes
Sides
Make-Ahead Dinner Biscuits
Apple and Sage Stuffing
Cranberry-Orange Sauce
Butternut Squash with Caramelized Apples
Green Bean Casserole
Glazed Carrots
Dessert
Apple Pie
Vanilla Ice Cream
Hopefully Pumpkin Pie
As always, each dish in this feast has been developed to share with everyone. I promise you that no one will even notice that these recipes were developed for a special diet -- they will just know they thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Other sides to consider: Smashed Red Bliss Potatoes instead of your traditional mashed Potatoes, Glazed Brussel Sprouts, Roasted Veggies.
Some of the recipes are definitely for a more "sophisticated" palate and probably not for your average toddler or young child. When Molly was younger, we made the plain mashed potatoes, a veggie finger (the nugget recipe, shaped like a "chicken" finger), broccoli, carrots, biscuits and stuffing. As she got older, the dishes became a bit more fancy.
At the bottom of this blog is a link to our Game Plan to help organize your holiday. You can print it out by clicking on the little printer icon.
I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. If you have questions, please ask them before Tuesday. At that point I, too, will be swamped in the kitchen.
If you found these recipes were something you enjoyed, then please consider making a donation to Cook for Love. We can only continue our efforts if we are supported by the community we are dedicated to serving.
Here is the Game Plan!
Happy Cooking!
